Las Vegas Grind - Part 1 é uma coletânea de bandas desconhecidas dos anos 50 e 60 que tocavam um roquenrol original, no sentido de origem, início mesmo. Dá pra sentir o frescor e a energia nas 31 faixas que, segundo a proposta do album, representam o trabalho da bandas de Las Vegas que "animavam" os shows nas noites dos clubes de striptease. Temas instrumentais com sugestivos nomes como The Whip (com The Frantics) e Torture Rock (Rockin'Bellmarx) contrastam com temas mais engraçados como Hiccups (Empallos) e A Studio Session (Louie Overseas). Essa última canção, aliás, é um registro metalinguístico muito divertido, que simula a gravação de uma canção em que a banda é frequentemente interrompida pelo manager do studio. A música revela uma bem-humorada percepção do momento musical da época e uma crítica aos burocratas e sua visão de mundo.
O encarte não traz nenhuma informação sobre as bandas a não ser seus nomes e as músicas que tocam. É certo que houve uma troca na ordem das faixas 5 e 6, já que a melodia de Peter Gunn é inesquecível (conheci há muito anos pelo Art of Noise).
A receita parece que deu certo pois a série continuou até a sexta coletânea. Ainda não ouvi os outros discos mas este primeiro Las Vegas Grind - Part 1, pelo menos, é imperdível.
Las Vegas Grind - Part 1 is a collection of obscure groups from 50's and 60's who used to play an original rock'n'roll, "original" in its primitive sense, meaning "origins", "begining". We can feel the freshness and the energy on the 31 tracks that - as the album proposes - caught the work of groups who cheered up the nights at stripteases clubs from Vegas. Instrumental themes with suggestives names as The Whip (The Frantics) and Torture Rock (Rockin'Bellmarx) contrasts with funny songs like Hiccups (Empallos) and A Studio Session (Louie Overseas). This last one, indeed, is a metalinguistic joke that simulate a record session, frequently interrupted by the studio manager. This song reveals a high-spirited sight of that musical moment and a criticism to the burocrats.
There are no more information than the groups and the tracks they play. I am sure that tracks 5 and 6 were changed because the melody of Peter Gunn is unforgettable (I knew that a long ago by Art of Noise record).
It seems that the recipe worked out, since 5 more records like this were issued. I didn't listen them yet but this Las Vegas Grind part 1 is a must.
